The world’s second largest country by surface but relatively small in terms of population, Canada punches above its weight in economic terms. It is one of the world’s top trading nations – and one of its richest. Alongside a dominant service sector, Canada also has vast oil reserves and is a major exporter or energy, food and minerals. Canada is a North American country stretching from the U.S. in the south to the Arctic Circle in the north. Major cities include massive Toronto, west coast film center Vancouver, French-speaking Montreal and Quebec City, and capital city Ottawa.
Canada’s vast swaths of wilderness include lake-filled Banff National Park in the Rocky Mountains. It’s also home to Niagara Falls, a famous group of massive waterfalls. With its vivid culture, astounding natural setting and extensive landscape, it’s no wonder that Canada is a developed country and has the fifteenth-highest nominal per capita income globally as well as the tenth-highest ranking in the Human Development index.
It ranks among the highest in international measurements of government transparency, civil liberties, quality of life, economic freedom, and education.

Canada is justifiably proud of its universities and colleges. There is no formal ranking system though, and choices are often based on geographic convenience and the reputation of a particular course. Of the 36 universities in Canada, 8 are privately funded and 1 (Montreal) uses French as the medium of instruction. Students from all over the world come to Canada for their tertiary education, and Canadian degrees are recognized
An important feature of the higher education system is that it is based on principle that anybody who wishes to do so should be able to complete a higher education program in any specialization they wish. No distinction is made between higher professional education and academic education;
the same institution can provide both type of education. Students in bachelor’s programs always have ample freedom to choose electives, allowing a professional major to be supplemented with subjects of a more academic nature, and vice versa.
