Admission requirements for international students

    • UTAS does not charge any application fee for both Undergrad and Postgrad programs.
    • For an MBBS degree, a non-refundable amount of 80 USD is charged.
  3. Application requirements

    • Keep your academic transcripts, passport photograph, and English proficiency test handy before starting with the applications.
    • International applicants need to provide English language test details taken within the past two years.
    • Applicants must have achieved a required grade in their previous qualifying studies
    • Most master’s courses require qualifications equivalent to an Australian bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 6.5 IELTS score.
    • Doctorate admissions normally require an equivalent bachelor’s degree and an IELTS score of 6.5.
    • Some courses might have additional requirements, so make sure you read the requirements of the specific course you are interested in.
  4. Application deadlines

    • Though the application deadlines are variable according to specific courses, it is advised to apply 3 months before the start of the semester.
    • For example, semesters from February to June, exchange applications from 30th November to 15th December, a year before.

Scholarships for international students

There is a wide range of scholarships available for international students awarded based on merit. These are very beneficial with the fees and accommodation for international students moving to Tasmania. Listed below are some of the scholarships

2022 Commencing Offshore Student Scholarship

  • This Scholarship came to light due to covid and provides international students studying overseas with a 20% reduction in tuition fees while they are unable to travel to Australia for study due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

Tasmanian International Scholarship (TIS)

  • The Tasmanian International Scholarship (TIS) provides a 25% reduction in registered tuition fees for the duration of their course to both undergraduate and postgraduate students (with few exceptions).

Destination Australia Scholarship (for International Students)

  • On 20 March 2019, The Destination Australia Program came to light for the international students as a part of the ‘Planning for Australia’s Future Population’. 
  • This scholarship is available to international students who are commencing a full-time bachelor’s degree, or postgraduate degree in 2022 on either of the campuses. 
  • Selection is based on academic merit and application. Recipients also need to achieve a 5.0/7.0 cumulative grade point average (CGPA) at the end of each semester.

Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarships

  • Awarded competitively to students of exceptional research potential while undertaking the doctoral degree. 
  • Living Allowance – 20795 USD per annum (2021 rate)

The University of Tasmania provides 150 UG, 130 Masters, and Doctoral programs as well as research degrees. It also offers niche courses on marine and Antarctic science, maritime engineering, ocean seafaring, environmental studies, international relations, and logistics management.

The eligibility criteria are as follows:

  • International applicants require a minimum of 65% overall for all subjects for UG  and a minimum GPA of 4 on a scale of 7 for PG.
  • English proficiency: Minimum IELTS score of 6.0 for UG and 5.5 for PG.

The University provides on-campus and off-campus student accommodation in Hobart and Launceston through Accommodation Services.
