Admission Process for International Applicants

In order to apply for any course in the University, interested candidates have to appear for the following exams:

UCD Scholarships for International Students

The University College Dublin provides ample opportunities for international students to avail scholarships. Some of them are:

  • College of Engineering & Architecture Scholarship

Amount ranges from 3,473 USD to 11,576 USD. Students need to apply separately for this scholarship. Applicants must be a resident of a non-EU country. Scholarship decisions are based on merit and application review.

  • Global Excellence Scholarship

This scholarship awards 50% or 100% tuition waivers to successful applicants. Students must make a separate application, and selection is based on merit. Only the students who want to pursue full-time undergraduate and graduate programs delivered on the campus can apply.

  • International Student Scholarships

Every international applicant is automatically considered for a partial tuition waiver while applying. Decisions are based on the admission application, and no additional forms need to be submitted.

In addition to the scholarships mentioned above, the University College Dublin also offers exclusive scholarships to international students through its various colleges. The Smurfit School of Business has various scholarship opportunities that international students can apply to. 

The government of Ireland also has more than 60 scholarships that international students can apply for.

UCD has a career network site that assists students in finding internships and jobs and provides relevant resources for CVs and application submissions, interview preparations, and better networking. Students can also book 1 to 1 consultations with a career & Skill expert through the career network page. These consultants help the students in Individual Career Planning and exploring academic and non-Academic career options, job applications, interviews, and presentations.

Working in Ireland

During graduation-Students holding a valid  immigration stamp 2 permission will be permitted to work 40 hours per week only during June, July, August, and September, and from 15 December to 15 January inclusive.  At all other times, students holding Immigration permission Stamp 2 will be limited to working 20 hours per week. The authorization to work ceases on the expiry of the student’s Stamp 2 immigration permission.

After graduation-Students may apply for ‘Stamp 1G’ permission. This entitles them to work up to 40 hours per week for a period of 12 months following successful completion of their course, with the option of extending for a further 12 months subject to certain conditions.

Work Permit after studies-The Ireland General Work Permit is a Work Visa that permits non-EU nationals to work lawfully in Ireland. This is for an employer in a specific occupation, and the Visa is granted initially for 2 years. The Ireland Work Visa is offered to applicants who have a job offer.

The following are the requirements for getting into UCD’s undergraduate programs:

  • CGPA 3.0 out of 4.0
  • ACT (minimum score 22 ) or SAT (minimum 1090).
  • For English proficiency: An average score of 6.5 in overall components or a minimum score of 90 is required in the Internet-based TOEFL (iBT).
  • For studying a language at an advanced level during their first year, at least a score of 3 in the AP exam in the language or equivalent is required.

The UCD residences have a single bedroom with private and shared bathroom options. Student apartments are equipped with kitchens, and fully catered packages are also available. Adapted facilities are available for students with a disability. Due to a high number of applications, UCD does not guarantee accommodation for every international student.

The UCD provides 3 scholarships, and the amount of waiver or concession depends on the merit and skills of the student. Some may provide a scholarship of a particular amount, whereas others may provide a majority tuition waiver of 50-100% based on the applicant’s merit.
