Yellowjackson Union and Swenson Hall are the newest additions to the campus with state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure. These places serve as a recreational and vibrant spot for students to meet, study, eat, play, and relax.

Residence and Student Housing 

The University of Wisconsin-Superior provides ample on-campus accommodation to students with their residence halls. Crownhart, Ross-Hawkes, Curran-Mcneill Ostrander are some of the residence halls that allow students to live in a close-knit community at UW-Superior. Housing facilities for students during summer are available at Ross halls. On-campus housing is mandatory for students under the age of 20.

More than 90% of first-year undergraduate students choose to stay on campus at one of the university’s accommodation facilities. UW-Superior has co-ed residence halls and provides special housing for married couples, disabled students, and international students.

Apart from double rooms, 3-person suites, and 4-person suites, students can also choose to live in a single room (depending on availability). All rooms at UW-Superior’s residence halls come with basic furnishings which include twin-size beds, chairs & desks, window blinds, dressers, carpet, and wi-fi connections.

Student Life & Activities

With an acceptance rate of 81% (2021 admissions), entry into the University of Wisconsin-Superior is not very competitive. Admissions are offered primarily based on high school grades. An average high school GPA of 3.23 (B grade) is recommended but not necessary for admission to the university

Graduate Admission Requirements

Admission and eligibility requirements for most graduate programs depending on the choice of course. However, a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 2.75/4.0 is required for entry to most master’s degree programs at UW-Superior.

All interested international applicants are required to submit an online application to the Graduate Studies department.

Requirements for minimum GPA, letters of recommendation, portfolio/cv, and statement of purpose vary for every graduate degree program. 

Candidates that do not meet one or more of the requirements for entry can still be granted admission to UW-Superior on a conditional basis.

Scholarships & Student Employment at UW-Superior for International Students.

The University of Wisconsin-Superior has several scholarships, grants, and student employment opportunities to make higher education affordable for international students.

  • Nonresident Tuition Waiver (NTW) program
  • NTW Scholar Awards:

These are merit-based scholarships that award undergraduate students with 7,200 USD. Applying international students must have an average GPA of 3.4 on a scale of 4.0

  • NTW Awards

Most international applicants who are accepted for admission to a UW-Superior full-time undergraduate program are eligible for this scholarship. The scholarship amount is 5,300 USD for the 2021-2022 academic year.

All international students that are accepted for an undergraduate program at UW-Superior are automatically considered for both NTA awards. No separate application is required. A personal statement is recommended, but not mandatory to avail these scholarships.

  • UW-Superior Foundation Scholarships
  • All existing undergraduate and graduate international students (who are already enrolled in a degree program) are eligible to apply for any of the Foundation scholarships offered by the university.

More than 55% of foundation scholarship applicants received an average award of 2,500 USD in recent years.

  • #YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship

Awarded to two international applicants enrolling in every fall semester, the #YouAreWelcomeHere (YAWH) scholarship awards 7,500 USD every year to successful applicants. 

A separate application has to be made to avail of this scholarship. Applicants must have a high school GPA that is equivalent to 3.5 on a scale of 4. Additionally, they should possess initiative and interest in leadership and intercultural learning.

All international students on an F-1 visa can work up to 20 hours per week in any of the several on-campus jobs that the University of Wisconsin-Superior has to offer. According to the university, every international student seeking student employment in the last 5 years has been able to work on-campus.
