Canadian independent College was founded in 1966 when Notre Dame of St. Agatha became a non-denominational residential care facility for all students in the region.

CIC Waterloo retains a long legacy of dedication and concern for its students and community.

Academic courses, applied courses, and open courses are available to students in grades 9 and 10. Canadian Independent College primarily focuses on academic courses, with open courses for students used strategically when necessary.

Students in grades 11 and 12 can enroll in open courses to broaden their knowledge and skills in a subject that may or may not be related to their future goals but pique their interest. These courses are not designed to meet the requirements of university or college programs, but with regard to the workplace.

Programs and Courses offered at Canadian Independent College Ontario

1. 1. OSSD – The Ontario Secondary School Diploma is a goal to achieve for students (OSSD). The OSSD, as well as the student’s final transcript, will be used to gain entrance to universities and schools all over the world. Students must complete 30 credits (18 required and 12 electives), the Ontario Literacy Test, and 40 hours of community service to earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma. A credit is earned by passing a 110-hour course with a grade of 50% or higher.
   2. Community Involvement Hours – The COVID-19 pandemic has created many challenges for students to volunteer safely. So CIC has Created a list of suggested opportunities for students to gain community involvement hours at a safe distance.
   3. High school – 
      • The last two years of the intermediate curriculum are included in the Ontario Ministry of Education’s requirements for the Ontario Secondary Graduation Diploma in grades nine and ten. By providing the necessary skills and knowledge, these years, with their primarily compulsory studies, lay the groundwork for senior division specialization.
      • Students in Grades 11 and 12 can take university or college preparation courses at Canadian Independent College. These courses are designed to help students acquire the information and abilities necessary to meet the entrance criteria for university or college programs.
   4. Pre-university – The education you received before enrolling in college is referred to as pre-university education. This usually refers to the educational system of the country you attended.
   5. AP Program – The Advanced Placement Program (AP) at CIC Waterloo allows motivated and academically qualified students to pursue university-level studies while still in college. The curriculum consists of university-level courses, as well as yearly assessments, established by the AP Program, which CIC can deliver. There are now 38 courses and exams available through the AP Program.

   7. ESL Programs -The ESL and ELD curriculum is designed to help English language learners achieve the skills they need to become proficient in everyday English and, more crucially, academic English, allowing them to successfully integrate into a mainstream academic school program.
   8. Assessment and evaluation: final Exams – A CIC invigilator or employees from an official test center in your area will administer all final exams. There will be no online access to the final test. In the exam room, you will be banned from using any technological or communication devices. A student’s test score will be canceled if he or she accesses social media during the exam.
   9. OSR Record– An OSR will consist of the following: OSR Folder, Report cards, Ontario Student Transcript, Documentation File, office index card

Admission Process for International Students at Canadian Independent College

• Fill out the college’s application form, which can be found on Canadian Independent college’s official website. Alternatively, to ensure an error-free application process and enhance your chances of securing admission, apply via Gyanberry.
• Scan the bio-data page from your passport and save it as a PDF.
• Scans the last two years of your school records and convert them into PDF.
• Send all documents to the college’s admission advisor through E-mail.
• You’ll receive a letter of admission if the college approves your application, then you’ll be required to finish the fee payment process.
• Following payment, you will receive a letter of acceptance along with Visa Documents.
• As soon as you receive confirmation of your study permit, notify the admission office.
• The final step is to complete your enrollment by paying the remaining fee and confirming airport pickup one week before you arrive at the campus 

Application Deadlines

Each year, students are admitted to Canadian Independent College in September, January, April, and July. The length of time it takes to apply for a study permit varies by country. Canadian Independent College recognizes this and offers some flexibility in terms of class start dates. Students who obtain immigration permits outside of the usual pattern of admission entrance dates may be assigned to new classes.

Eligibility Criteria

• By the end of grade 10, students will have completed 16 of the 18 mandatory courses required for graduation by the ministry of Education.
• Classes should be offered at a level that allows students to meet OSSD Requirements.
• By the end of grade 12, students should’ve completed the required 30 Credits.
• Students who completed 40 hours of community service and passed the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test will be eligible for the diploma course issued by The Ontario Ministry of Education.
• Students who have completed an OSSD at  4U or 4M (pre-university) Level should have at least 6 appropriate prerequisite credits which will make them eligible for direct admission at the Canadian independent University.
