Eligibility Criteria and Admission Process for International Students
Admissions are quite selective at Masaryk University with an acceptance rate of 35%-40%. However, the application process is not that complex and students can easily apply for admission to the desired program.
- Faculty of Medicine: For admission to the faculty of medicine; interested candidates must pass an entrance examination organized by the university. The written entrance examination consists of three separate tests of chemistry, biology, and physics or mathematics.
- Faculty of Science: An online interview is organized for students interested in the program. The decision will be made by the Faculty headquarters.
- Faculty of Arts: The result of the admission process in the bachelor’s program depends on the quality of the provided documents:
- two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from a teacher
- statement of purpose in English (500 words maximum)
- a document demonstrating English-language skills at the B2 level
- transcript of secondary school studies
- an ID or passport copy or secondary school certificate or essay.
Once the student gets qualified; he/she will be invited for a skype interview.
For admission to Masters’s programs at Masaryk University’s arts faculty, applicants must submit the following documents:
- CV
- two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from a teacher
- statement of purpose in English (750 words maximum)
- copy of the applicant’s Bachelor’s thesis or its equivalent or 15 pages of the applicant´s original academic paper
- a document demonstrating English-language skills at the C1 level
- transcript of university/college studies
- program North-American Culture Studies requires demonstration of French-language/Spanish language skills at the B1 level if applicable
Once the student gets qualified; he/she will be invited for a skype interview.
4. Faculty of Education: For admission to the Faculty of Education; applicants must submit the following documents:
- CV
- cover letter
- certificate of proficiency in English
- a document certifying completion of secondary education/bachelor’s program
5. Faculty of Pharmacy: Interested candidates need to pass entrance exams consisting of the test from biology and chemistry. Once they qualify; they must submit the following documents:
- a Curriculum Vitae (CV) in English
- verified copy of High School Leaving Certificate with the original Apostille/ Superlegalization.
6. Faculty of economics and administration: For admission to courses offered by the Faculty of economics and administration (Bachelors as well as Masters; the admission decision is made by the Dean of the faculty upon submission from the Admission Commission for foreign studies. The commission evaluates:
- documented language competence
- previous study results
- sufficient knowledge in the field assessed based on the essay submitted by the candidate and eventual interview
- data provided in the statement of purpose
- CV(for master’s program)
7. Faculty of Informatics: Interested applicants must clear the entrance exam and submit the following documents:
- diploma or statement of expected graduation
- diploma supplement/Transcript of records
- CV
- proof of English language level
- motivation letter
- own academic work/publication (e.g. bachelor, diploma thesis)
- copy of passport
- two references on official headed paper, one of which should be an academic reference
8. Faculty of Social Studies: Applicants must submit the following documents:
- cover letter of 500 words (in English)
- 1500words essay (in English)
- secondary school certificate or proof of current studies
- Transcripts of Grades from secondary school
- proof of English (a certificate or an honest statement)
- ID or passport copy
- The admission committee reviews the applications. The ones that qualify for the first round go forward for a skype interview.

Masaryk University Scholarships for International Students
- Newcomer’s Scholarship
Awarded to students from developing countries who enroll in a full-time program taught in English at Masaryk University. The scholarship is awarded to students with very good academic records. It awards 100,000 CZK (4568 USD) to cover first-year fees.
- Grant for Accommodation
This grant is available to students enrolled in a first-year full-time undergraduate program to help them find accommodation in the city.
- Government Scholarships

Working in the Czech Republic
EU Citizens and citizens living in Nordic countries do not require any visa, Work Permit, or Residence Permit to live, work or travel within the Czech Republic.
Third-country nationals require a Work Permit, Residence Permit, and Visa to enter the country. The process starts with getting a job and securing an employment contract so a Work Permit can be applied for. For foreigners requiring an entry visa and once the permit has been sanctioned, a special work visa is automatically issued on completion of the visa form (no extra documentation is required) to allow the employee to enter the Czech Republic to collect the Work Permit/Residence Permit. The work permit is valid for 2 years and is renewable.
