Nicolaus Copernicus University was established in Toruń in 1945. It’s among the largest universities to study in Poland. It comprises 16 faculties which include 3 faculties at Collegium Medicum UMK (another campus in Bydgoszcz) for medical science.
The infrastructure of state-of-the-art research at Nicolaus Copernicus University includes the national laboratory of (FAMO) Molecular and Optical Physics, the Interdisciplinary Center for Modern Technologies, and the Center for Quantum Optics. Apart from these, it also comprises modern teaching facilities and a university sports center to enroll students in activities other than academics.
It offers many graduate and around 55 postgraduate courses in more than 100 areas of study to around 18,000 plus students. On both Bydgoszcz and Toruń campuses, the university has a staff of approximately 4450 (half of them are academic teachers). In total, the number of alumni of NCU is around 2,00,000.
NCU won the Title of a research university in a competition “Excellence Initiative – Research University” held by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The title means that the university can compete with other international institutions in the upcoming time.
The university is among the top institutes to study medicine in Poland.

The two university campuses in Toruń: are Centrum (the Center Campus) and Bielany (the Bielany Campus). The university owns 11 dormitories for accommodations for over 3,000 plus students.
