Slippery Rock University is a public university that came into existence as Slippery Rock State Normal School on 26 March 1889. It has come into action for training teachers as a primary purpose. In 1926, the commonwealth purchased the institution and renamed it Slippery Rock State Teachers College. It’s a 660- acre campus located in western Pennsylvania.
In 1960, it was established as Slippery Rock State College and undergraduate and graduate programs started commencing in the college in the field of liberal arts. As it expanded its curriculum which apparently increased the number of enrolled students. Henceforth, in 1983, it was granted the status of a university.
Today, Slippery Rock University offers a broad area of undergraduate and graduate programs to 8,500 plus students. The Middle State Commission has accredited Slippery Rock University on discipline-specific and Higher Education.
