The University of Hertfordshire is the predecessor of the Hatfield Technical College. The University was founded in 1948. The Hatfield Technical College was inaugurated by the Duke Of Edinburgh in the year 1952, with both part-time and full-time courses being offered here. Campus and Accommodation at The University of Hertfordshire
Campus:
The University has two main campuses which are the College Lane and de Havilland respectively. The campus is equipped with a number of facilities like a swimming pool, climbing wall, two art galleries, an auditorium for plays, laboratories that are officially recognized in the United Kingdom.
- The College Lane Campus
This is the main campus of the University which was established as the Hatfield Technical College earlier. This campus is also the home of Hertfordshire International College. The other important locations here are the Intensive Care Unit and the Learning Resource Centre. It has many laboratories and a recently opened cafe.
- de Havilland Campus
This campus was inaugurated in 2003 and is at a 15-minute walking distance It is built on an Aerospace site. It has a number of facilities such as a swimming pool, squash courts and gyms. An auditorium with a capacity of 450 people is also situated here. It is used for lectures as well as music and dance events. A mock-up courtroom is also present here’s this campus is mostly based on the law and business aspects of the University.
- Bayfordbury Campus
This campus is 6 miles away from the main campus. One of the most important parts of the campus is the Hatfield Bayfordbury Observatory which is among the largest functional laboratories in Britain. This laboratory is used by students pursuing astronomy-related courses. The campus also has seven telescopes, with one new radio telescope being added recently.
- Meridian House
This part of the University campus is used by the students pursuing medical, nursing, and midwifery courses. It has eight clinical laboratories. Apart from that, it has a few staff quarters and also provides a number of counseling programs. It is located offside the main town center.
