In 1811, Prussian king Frederik Wilhelm II relocated Viadrina University (Frankfurt) to Wroclaw, it was then that Wroclaw Medical University came into existence.
The university is among the best medical universities to study medicine in Poland. It has been extremely popular for medical studies among candidates. At present, the university is educating 6000 plus students in 10 areas of study: Medicine and Dentistry, Medicine, Pharmacy, Dietetics, Medical Analysis, Emergency Medicine, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Public Health, and Obstetrics.
In the year 2003, the English Division (ED) was established. Though, the curriculum is identical to the Polish Division. Teaching in the university is carried out by specialists that are highly qualified and educated. Tutorial groups of about 10 to 12 students are made in the theoretical subjects to focus more on individuals. In 2018/2019, as taken into account, 837 students of ED (English Division) were there in the university of which 143 students were included in the Faculty of Dentistry and 694 in the Faculty of Medicine.

The university has dormitories of its own and offers two dormitories named “Jubilatka” and “Blizniak”. “Jubilatka” offers a single place in a double room whereas “Blizniak” offers a dormitory with a single place in a three-person room. Scholarships for International Students
Scholarships are available for students who have entered Nursing as their course of study. Additionally, the Rector’s Scholarship is available to students who are in their second year of study and have received grades above 3.5 in their first year of study.
