BIC – Berlin International College: Courses, Admissions, Fees, and Scholarships

Established in 2012, the Berlin International College was set up with the primary goal of allowing international students to study in Germany and pursue Business, IT, Engineering, and Agriculture degrees. As a result, the undergraduate study abroad program tables a road map to pursuing degrees from various specializations available in each field. 

BIC is a pathway college, which means that graduates can enroll in another German institution after successfully completing the paths programs at BIC. Applications from international students holding diverse interests, cultures, and values are welcome. BIC has a number of partner institutions in Germany, and those who apply for a BIC preparation program can opt to study at one of these colleges.

Programs and courses offered at Berlin International College 

In the beginning, Berlin International College offered short preparation programs combined with external language classes. 

Longer preparation programs were called Studienkolleg, which included subject courses for entry to German universities. German language classes for levels A1 to C1 also became available with time. 

Thus, the BIC Preparation Program is a great way to get started on your academic journey. Specific emphasis is placed on mathematics because of its crucial role in engineering and the sciences.

Admission requirements for international students 

Once you browse through BIC’s website, you will find a list of related degree programs from where you can select the Preparation Program of your choice. After this is done, you will be asked to send in an application to BIC. Prospective applicants should apply via Gyanberry to ensure a smooth admissions process. 

Application fee: 194 USD

Undergraduate Admissions 

International students should note that the admission process does not require you to appear for an entry-level exam. All you need to do is to submit a perfect application.

The following items make up a comprehensive application:

  • Obtaining a passport (copy)
  • Certificates and transcripts from secondary school (in original language and as legally attested translations to German or English)
  • There are up to three different universities and study programs to choose from; at least one of them must be an Applied Science University.
  • If you have already attended a university or have a (German and/or English) language certificate, you must also submit the required documentation for that. 
  • Certificates and transcripts from universities (in original language and as legally attested translations to German or English)
  • Certification in a foreign language: TestDaF, telc, DS H, or a Goethe examination certificate are required for German programs.
  • IELTS or TOEFL for the English program’s requirements for UG courses 
  • Certificate of completion of secondary school
  • A minimum of 50% of the total potential points

Graduate Admissions 

Although PG admission requirements are quite similar to its UG counterpart, applicants need to submit a few additional documents for approval. These include 

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an approved university in the desired field of study*
  • A grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 on the German grading scale

*Please note that the ability to communicate in German is not required. However, if you already have a German certificate, it will shorten the duration of your course.

Tuition, fees, and annual cost of attendance 

The course duration of different preparatory programs varies according to your German proficiency level. Tuition fees are due in two installments:

  • 1st half 12 weeks prior to the start of the program and
  • 2nd half 2 weeks prior to the start of the program

Scholarships for international students

The Berlin International College itself does not provide scholarships to students. However, multiple scholarship options are available via German embassies, external sources, and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). 

For international students, academicians, and scientists from all countries, the DAAD offers a plethora of scholarship programs. Most of these are offered at the graduate level, but some may be availed at the UG level by a limited number of meritorious students.

BIC offers preparation programs through 4 of its departments- Engineering, Information Technology (IT), Architecture, and Business. There are several different universities and study programs to choose from. You can opt for a pathway course of your choice and then enroll in a partner German university.

An entry-level exam is not required for international students who wish to enroll at BIC. All the applicants need to do is submit a comprehensive application with all the required documentation attached neatly to it.

The College does not offer on-campus housing. However, it assists students in finding residential halls and apartments as per their requirements and convenience. The College provides advisors to assist in finding the same.

BIC does not provide scholarships or financial aid to international students. However, students can apply for university-provided scholarships upon starting their degree program.
