The Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) is a public research university in Lithuania, it was founded in 1922. On February 16, the University of Lithuania and its technical faculties relocated to Kaunas. Since its inception in 1922, the university has educated over 153,000 graduates and is currently home to 590 international students who choose to study in Lithuania at KTU.

KTU has a total enrollment of 9040 and offers 122 study programs. 56 programs at the bachelor’s and master’s levels are provided in English.

The Kaunas University of Technology provides a wide range of Bachelor’s degree programs and Master’s degree programs for International Students.

Undergraduate Programs

  1. Undergraduate and integrated studies – Admission is granted to those who have completed secondary school and meet the University’s other requirements. The study programs are 180 or 240 study credits in length, with full-time studies lasting 3 or 4 years.

Graduate Programs

  1. Master’s Studies–  People who have completed a bachelor’s (first cycle) or integrated (bachelor’s and master’s) degree and meet other University requirements are eligible to apply. The number of study credits in each program is 90 or 120, and full-time studies last 1.5 or 2 years.
  2. Doctoral Studies– Doctoral programs are designed to prepare scientists (researchers artists) who can conduct scientific (artistic) research and development work independently, solve scientific (artistic) problems, and work in both academic and non-academic settings. Doctoral studies last four years (full-time), and applicants must have a master’s degree or equivalent.
  3. Professional studies in pedagogy – Pedagogical studies- Admission to a pedagogical (professional) study program Admission of Students to the Kaunas University of Technology in 2022 is the basis for pedagogical studies. The minimum requirements and the competitive score are the two main parts of the admission requirements.
  4. Executive MBA– The Kaunas University of Technology and ISM University of Management and Economics’ joint MBA program is designed to assist determined and talented leaders in overcoming challenges. The program is based on contemporary management teaching methods and meets the needs of today’s business market and society.
  5. Additional studies – Additional studies are designed for people who have earned a professional bachelor’s degree from a college or a bachelor’s degree from a university and want to pursue a master’s degree (second cycle). The required additional studies’ scope and duration are specified in the master’s study program. They usually last at least one semester and cover a minimum of 30 study credits.

Accommodation facilities at KTU

Dormitories

KTU provides 12 dormitories where students can live in a single or shared room and have access to the kitchen, laundry, internet, and other amenities.

Monthly rental rates range from 8,550 to 17,370 USD per month, depending on the room type.

Private accommodation

You may choose to rent a flat if you prefer more space, want to live in a specific area of Kaunas, or have other reasons. The International Studies Office (ISO) at KTU does not act as a middleman in the search for a flat or dealing with the landlord.

The cost of renting a room varies depending on the number of rooms, location, living conditions, rental period, and other factors. The average monthly rent for a flat ranges from 170  to 455 USD (1-3 rooms). Rent is usually paid 3-6 months in advance, so have some cash on hand when you arrive. Ensure that your landlord agrees to you declaring your residence in municipal institutions; otherwise, you may encounter difficulties when applying for or receiving a temporary residence permit.

Solo Society Student House 

The Solo Society Student House is designed for students who want to live and study in a vibrant community.

Each apartment is equipped with a kitchen and bathroom. Joint leisure, meditation, study zones, large kitchens for friends and family dinners, fast Wi-Fi, laundry rooms with washers and dryers, gym hall, and a rooftop terrace with a view of Kaunas city center are all available. Safe surroundings with security and administration available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All taxes and utility fees (water, electricity, and heating) are included in the price.

Home Student Apartments 

In the Baltic States, Home provides affordable, high-quality student housing. The 1Home Student Apartments are conveniently located near the city center and universities. They have recently been renovated to meet high-quality standards to provide students with a comfortable stay. The apartments typically have 4-6 single rooms and a shared kitchen and bathroom. The majority of our tenants are international exchange students, but 1Home welcomes local students as well.

Admission requirements for international students

Applications are admitted through the online application system. Alternatively, students can apply via Gyanberry for error-free document submission to enhance their chances of admission.

Application requirements 

  1. Persons who meet the following criteria are eligible for admission to the first cycle study programs and integrated studies:
  2. Secondary education cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 60% is required for each entry subject.
  3. Students must pass one state or equivalent examination in any subject, as well as the University’s entrance examination.
  4. If English is not a person’s first language, they must know the English language at least at level B2 according to the CEFR, an IELTS score of at least 5.5 if all component scores are at least 5.5, a TOEFL iBT score of at least 75, or an equivalent level of other international English language exams taken within the last two years.
  5. Persons who completed secondary education before 2015 must pass the University’s entrance examinations, which must be compliant with the components of the competition score of their preferred study program.
  6. Depending on the country where the applicant received his or her secondary education, additional requirements may be imposed.

Undergraduate Admissions

Application process for undergraduate and integrated studies

  1. During the institutional admission of foreign citizens, the individuals are only admitted to state-funded non-funded positions of study at the university to study full-time study programs offered in English.
  2. Institutional admission for foreign citizens is done in two stages: the first is for those who want to start studying on September 1, 2022, and the second is for those who want to start studying on February 1, 2023. The start of studies is specified according to the semester in Appendices 5 and 6 of the Admission Rules.
  3. It is mandatory to fill in all required data and submit electronic copies of all required documents when applying.

Graduate/postgraduate admissions

Application Requirements for Master’s studies

  1. Admission to the second cycle is governed by the Admission of Students to the Kaunas University of Technology in 2022, which follows the procedure outlined in Chapters III and VII of the Rules on Admission (hereinafter referred to as Annexes 3, 4, and 7 ). The minimum requirements and the competitive score are the two main parts of the admission requirements.
  2. The minimum requirements determine whether or not a person is eligible to compete for a particular study program.
  3. The people who apply for the studies are placed in a competition queue based on their competition score. In each study program, entrants are ranked according to their competition score.
  4. The competitive score for admission to any type of study program (full-time, part-time) or study funding nature (state-funded, non-funded place) is determined using the same principles.
  5. If the documents were issued by a foreign institution, they must be recognized by the Republic of Lithuania using the appropriate procedures.
  6. Those who want to return to university after graduation to pursue a university education (master’s degree) are admitted to a higher semester.
  7. Individuals interested in studying individual modules taught in the University’s study programs are invited to register as listeners and pay a fee to study individual study modules.

The application process for master’s studies

  1. There are three stages to getting into the first semester of the second cycle. Individuals are eligible to apply for both state-funded (VF) and non-state-funded (VNF) study positions.
  2. Applicants who have completed their study contracts in a state-funded location are eligible to compete in the next round. Only entrants who have terminated a previously concluded study contract at a state-funded place before applying to participate in the admission competition are eligible to compete for state-funded places. Only places not subsidized by the government are eligible for admission.
  3. The Master’s Admission Information System (MPIS) at KTU is used to admit students to master’s degree programs.
  4. If they have obtained more than half of the credits for that study program from the state budget, a person re-studying according to the study program of the same or lower cycle may not apply for a state-funded study place.

Doctoral application requirements

Doctoral studies:

  1. People re-studying according to the study program of the same or lower cycle may not apply for a state-funded study place if they have received more than half of the credits for that study program from the state budget.
  2. * Research (presentation of findings at two international scientific conferences and the publication of two scientific papers)
  3. * Dissertation doctoral (preparation and defense)

Doctor of Arts:

  1. 240 credits (40 credits for studies, 80 credits for artistic-creative practice, and 80 credits for artistic research)
  2. a creative project (preparation and defense)

Application Process

  1. Applicants for doctoral studies complete an online application within the specified deadlines, indicating the field(s) of science and art they wish to pursue, as well as attaching the required documents.
  2. The applicant is present at the admissions meeting (motivational interview)
  3. Those who have been invited to study sign a study agreement.

Documents required

  1. A copy of the personal data page of your passport or your identity card;
  2. The applicant’s curriculum vitae.
  3. Copies of the master’s (and bachelor’s, if applicable in the field of study) or equivalent diploma of completion of study with appendix If educational certificates are issued by foreign institutions, they must be recognized in the Republic of Lithuania using the appropriate procedure.
  4. (if required in the field of science – the recommendation of the research supervisor of the research topic to be applied for); recommendations of two researchers in the field of science (art) to be admitted to;
  5. The approval of the candidate’s supervisor for the subject to which he or she is applying (if applicable in the field of science);
  6. A research proposal on the chosen topic (if necessary in the scientific field).
  7. a list of research papers (with complete bibliographic information) and copies of those papers.
  8. A certificate proving the level of English achieved, issued by IELTS, TOEFL, CEFR, or another competent authority not more than two years ago.
  9. A copy of the receipt for the tuition fee.

Admission process for Professional studies in pedagogy

  1. The University Information System for Admission to Vocational Pedagogy accepts applications for admission to the competition on specific dates ( PPIs ).
  2. The presentation of proof of payment of the entrance fee precedes the examination of the application and all admission procedures.
  3. The application can make up to two requests, each indicating the different types of funding available: state-funded and non-state-funded.
  4. The tuition fee may also be paid for the entrant by another natural or legal person, but the payment details must be correctly indicated – the payer, the fee’s purpose. The funds will not be credited if you enter this information incorrectly. The tuition fee is non-refundable once an application for admission to the competition has been submitted.
  5. When applying, make sure to fill out all of the required questionnaires and indicate the desired study program based on the funding priority.

Documents required for professional studies in pedagogy

  1. Passport or identification card
  2. The appendix to a bachelor’s degree (appendix)
  3. other documents attesting to one’s education
  4. Work certificates from the educational institution (if employed) and recommendations from the institution’s leaders.
  5. Notes on attending conferences and reading papers
  6. certificates for the prepared programs and seminars held as a result of them
  7. Participation certificates in projects
  8. published works (articles, title pages, and content of published books).
  9. If not all of the submitted documents have the same surname or first name, a document confirming the change of surname or first name (if the personal identification code is not indicated in the educational document).
  10. Please double-check that all copies of the documents have been scanned and are legible. Your application will not be considered if you do not submit all of the required documents.

Note: For executive MBA process and documentation will be the same as professional studies in pedagogy

Application process for additional studies 

  1. Applications for supplementary studies admission are sent to the faculties where the respective study programs are held in the faculties’ study centers (see the section Contacts of the study centers of the faculties ).
  2. It is required to complete all required questionnaires and provides evaluations of the subjects of the bachelor’s or professional bachelor’s diploma when applying.
  3. One request may be made in the application, indicating the name of the study program that is published on the University’s website (see the section Postgraduate study programs) and in which additional studies are conducted.
  4. When applying for admission to additional studies, a fee for additional studies is paid ( see the section Compulsory fees ).
  5. The tuition fee is non-refundable once the application for admission has been submitted.
  6. When the University receives a notice from the bank regarding the payment of the entrance fee, the application is examined and all admission procedures begin.
  7. The registration fee for studies must be paid upon completion of the study contract after receiving the invitation to study (see the section Compulsory fees)

Doctoral Studies tuition fees

Doctoral studies might be financed by the government or otherwise.

Those accepted into a state-funded program do not pay for their education; instead, they receive financial assistance from the government (scholarship).

Those who are accepted to a non-state-funded institution must pay a predetermined fee for their study. The doctorate student might pay the tuition fee himself or have it paid for him by a third party.

Executive MBA tuition fees

If a student is in a tough economic (social) circumstance, tuition fees may be decreased. The amount of the tuition fee reduction is determined by the cost of the student’s study program.

The study centres of the faculties provide information on the possibility of applying for a tuition price reduction.

Additional studies tuition fees

A fee is charged for additional studies. Each credit of the chosen individual study plan module is used to determine the tuition charge.

Scholarships for international students

Depending on the study program, the Kaunas University of Technology offers full or partial tuition fee waivers to candidates who achieve exceptional results. 

  • Awarded to students who have a good academic record and are motivated.
  • All international applicants are eligible to apply for the scholarships.
  • All prospective students who applied through the University’s application system are automatically considered for scholarships.
  • The application for full tuition fee waivers closes on the same day as the application deadline for studies, which is July 31, 2021. In the middle of August, the scholarship recipients will be announced. Those who are awarded scholarships will be contacted individually.

KTU offers 48 bachelor’s and 24 master’s programs in English. It also offers an executive MBA program in partnership with SM University of Management and Economics.

A candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree. GRE/GMAT is not mandatory but recommended. For English proficiency, a minimum of 5.5 in IELTS or 75 in TOEFL iBT is required.
