The Medical University of Gdansk is the biggest medical institution in the region of Northern Poland. It was earlier regarded as the Gdansk Medical Academy. The foundation stone of the university was laid on 8 October 1945. The university imparts education to more than 6000 undergraduate and postgraduate students every year. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in four faculties. It’s not only renowned for its educational expertise in the field of medical sciences but it’s also known for its curriculum.

MUG delivers a total of seven programs in the English language which makes it easier for international students to opt for these programs. These are as follows:

Premedical Course: Course fees are 33,000 PLN or 7,200 USD.

Terms of Payment

For programs such as MD, Master of Pharmacy program, and Bachelor of Nursing, there are several terms of payment.

• Orientation Week fee: 30 days after acceptance.
• Tuition fee to be paid in two Installments: first by the 15th of October (or 15th of November – applies only to students applying for loans), and second by the 15th of February.
• Premedical Course: Fee to be paid within 30 days after being accepted.

Campus and Accommodation

The main campus is situated in Gdansk, Poland. Students in MUG can get accommodation in student hostels situated at the university.  The campus address is Dębowa 5, 11, and 13 Street. It is situated near the campus. It is just 300m away from the building. 

The campus entails such facilities:

Room is available for students with the following amenities:

• Furniture comprises of writing desk and swivels chair, 2 chairs, 2 beds, wardrobe

• Dormitory entails kitchen with gas/electric cooker, bathroom with showers and WC, and a laundry room with washing machine and dryers

Admission Requirements for International Students

The university offers the opportunity of enrolling in one of its programs to all eligible students.

1. MD program (6-year)

• Applicants must hold a high school diploma.
• They must have a secondary school leaving certificate.
•  The applicants must have GCE A-level certificates or IB and EB diplomas from the home country’s medical school. The students need to appear and pass their matriculation examination in biology, advanced level (HL), and one course: chemistry, physics, or mathematics, also at the advanced level (HL).
• The candidate must appear for IELTS OR TOEFL.
• IELTS score should not be less than 6.5 points. Whereas the TOEFL iBT score should not be less than 87 points.

2. Master of Pharmacy program (5-year)

• Applicants must hold a high school diploma.
• They must have a secondary school leaving certificate.
• The candidate must appear for IELTS OR TOEFL.
• IELTS score should not be less than 6.5 points. Whereas the TOEFL iBT score should not be less than 87 points.
• Must have GCE A-level certificates or IB and EB diplomas from the home country medical school. The students need to appear and pass their matriculation examination in biology, advanced level (HL), and one course: chemistry, physics, or mathematics, also at the advanced level (HL).
• The candidate must appear for IELTS OR TOEFL. IELTS score should not be less than 6.5 points. Whereas the TOEFL iBT score should not be less than 87 points.

3. Bachelor of Nursing program (3-year)

• Applicants must hold a high school diploma.
• They must have a secondary school leaving certificate.
•  The applicants must have GCE A-level certificates or IB and EB diplomas from the home country’s medical school. The students need to appear and pass their matriculation examination in biology, advanced level (HL), and one course: chemistry, physics, or mathematics, also at the advanced level (HL).

4. Premedical course

• Applicants must hold a high school diploma.

Scholarships for International Students

The MUG has assigned several regional officers to provide scholarships and financial assistance. 

Students who want to study in MUG in the Faculty of Medicine (English Division) can avail of the scholarship in an office allotted for the same. 

Students can also apply for external scholarships available for studying medicine in Poland.

Career Prospects for international students

The future opportunities after studying medicine in Poland are vast. Students who complete the 6-year MD program become eligible to practice in Poland or any other country where the Medical Council recognizes the degree offered by the University. Working in Poland

The average pay for a doctor in Poland is USD 56,000. If you are a non-EU citizen and plan to work in Poland for the long term, you will need a work permit. The work permit issued is valid for only one job, and you can use it to perform only those tasks mentioned in your application form. The validity of the work permit is 3 years. The employer must apply for a work permit on behalf of the foreign employee.
