UK

There is no shortage of pharmacy schools in the UK. In fact, it is one of the most sought study destinations after the US and Canada for pharmacy education. The only problem students face is the cost of tuition fees. It is a bit higher than the rest of the European countries. But still, it is way less than the tuition and living costs compared in Northern America. Plus, the scholarships offered by the UK schools make up for this tuition cost. The following is a list of some popular General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) accredited pharmacy universities in the UK.

To study pharmacy in the UK, you will need to fulfill the following admission criteria:

  • High school education with chemistry and either biology, mathematics or physics (AAB)
  • English language proficiency standard test scores: IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 92
  • A personal interview 
  • Disclosure and barring service check
  • Health check certificate 

Students should be aware that after graduation, students must do a 1-year clinical internship to become a pharmacist in the UK. This is a paid internship. Only after completing the internship students can submit an application for GPHC registration.

Poland

Students can apply for a pharmacists license in Poland only after they complete a long-cycle degree program called M Pharm. The duration of the course is 5.5 years long and it includes 6 months of pre-registration training. General admission requirements for pharmacy courses in Poland are:

  • High school education in biology, chemistry, and physics (GCE A-level)

Hungary

The admission requirements to study pharmacy in Czech are

 Ireland

The only college in Ireland where students can pursue a degree to work as a licensed pharmacist is the Trinity College Dublin.

Cyprus

In Cyprus, students can choose between first-cycle or long-cycle degrees to get a pharmacy license. So, Cypriot universities offer either a B Pharm, M Pharm, or a Pharm D course. After graduation, prospective pharmacists have to do an internship for 1 year before applying for a license.

Georgia

The University of Georgia offers a 4 years long Pharm D course which is equivalent to the US Pharm D course. To be admitted to the program, students must complete pre-pharmacy coursework and clear the Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT). In addition to this students have to prove their English language proficiency to study pharmacy in Georgia.

Admission process for Pharmacy universities in Europe

The application process for admission to UK pharmacy institutions is straightforward. The UK has a standard  application service called UCAS which allows students to submit multiple applications. 22 pounds is the first application, 26.5 pounds is the second, and so forth. The deadline to fill out the applications is October 15th every year. Applicants should make sure that they start their admission process at least 6 months before the deadline. You should follow these guidelines to apply via UCAS:

  • Register and create a UCAS account
  • Log in and fill out the application form 
  • Write a motivational letter
  • Add references from mentors 
  • Pay the application fee
  • Submit the filled application form
