Czech Republic

One of the most sought-after locations in Europe for the dental study in the Czech Republic. Medical schools in the Czech offer some of Europe’s top English-language dental programs. To become a dentist in Czech students need to complete a 5 years long-cycle master’s degree program in dentistry. 

Prospective students should consider the following things to study dentistry in Czechia.

In Poland, dentistry is a long-cycle undergraduate degree. The program runs for a period of 5 years i.e., 10 semesters. Dental graduates in Poland receive the title of “lekarz dentysta”. Polish dental schools conduct online entrance tests to test candidates’ reasoning and critical thinking in premedical sciences. The test usually consists of multiple-choice based questions which students should answer in a certain timeframe.

Georgia

Hungary

Latvia

Dentistry in Latvia is a 5-year course. There are two colleges to study dentistry in Latvia. They offer dental degrees in English as long-cycle master’s degrees. Both universities are ranked top in the national ranking by UniRank 2021.  

The admission requirements to study at the best medical universities in Latvia are as follows:

• High school diploma with core subjects as biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics
• An aggregate of 60% or equivalent in each of the above-mentioned compulsory subjects

Lithuania

There are only two dental schools in Lithuania that offer courses in English. Both schools offer dentistry (odontology) as an integrated degree of 5 years. Each course consists of 300 ECTS credits. Both the universities rank in the top 500 colleges in the world for dental studies as per QS ranking. 

To study dentistry in Lithuania, students need to answer an entrance test as a part of the admission process. Other requirements are a secondary school certificate in biology and chemistry, physics, or mathematics, transcripts, passport, motivation letter, etc. 

Admission process for Dental schools in Europe

It is quite easy to apply to dental colleges in the UK. There is a centralized service called UCAS where students can apply to many universities in a single shot. October 15 is the deadline for almost all the dental colleges in the UK. You just have to pay the application fee of 22 Pounds for a single university and 26.5 Pounds for two choices or more. The steps for a UCAS application are as follows:

• Register with UCAS through the official website
• Fill out the application form 
• Write a captivating motivational letter
• Add references from a mentor 
• Submit the filled application form

A dental degree in Europe takes five full years to complete whereas the same degree is of 4 years duration in the US. Students might get confused as to why the difference between the two. Although curriculum-wise both are the same, a US DDS or DMD is a secondary degree. It requires an applicant to have a bachelor’s degree. On the other hand, a European dental degree does not require a bachelor’s degree. Graduates can save up to two years of their educational time and utilize it to pursue dental specializations.
